Hurricane Rita

Rita is expected to make landfall in the Houston/Galveston area Friday night. The mayor of Houston and the mayors of surrounding areas have ordered mandatory and voluntary evacuations.

My mom and sister are flying here Friday morning on Delta, from Houston. My dad is staying with the house.

The house, while on relatively high ground and built only seven-ish years ago, was not constructed to withstand category five hurricane force winds. I am worried.

I try calling them every ten minutes or so on the four phones among them, only to receive the "all circuits are busy" message. The T-Mobile message is actually something like "due to the hurricane in the area you are calling, ...," which is interesting.

Debra's family is staying in Houston. Stephi's family is driving to Dallas (now a 24-hour drive, apparently).

Good luck to all.

I am worried about Andrew, Shannon, and Shannon's family as well. Haven't been able to get hold of them :(

it's all chill. just a little rain now that rita has turned. my friends and i threw a pre-rita party tonight and then i went to play some pool with ryan.

driving around here all day felt strange. very ominous. Cars on the road were scarce and those that were, mostly drove way under the speed limit, hauling their lives behind them either in trailers or the back of their trucks. the sky was overcast and somewhat eerie rays of light were peeking throught he clouds. i would randomly get butterflies in my stomach. it was weird.

buuuuutttt. katy should be okay now =) i'm gonna take lots of pictures if they come out well. can't wait to see if the bayous overflow. hello alligators =)

Hi My Boy! Just want you to be assured that we are totally ready and we'll be fine. Sure would have rather have come up to see you, tho...darn Delta. Everything is closed around here...except Dominoes!!! So, we've just had pizza for lunch! Now that was a treat, especially not knowing what Katy will be like after Rita comes through.
Miss you and love you so much, Mummy

Hey colin, I just thoughtI would say hello and tell you how great the site looks. Im glad to hear your family is ok, and your having fun in Pittsburg. If you get the chance I would realy like to talk to you, and catch up on whats new for you. As always Sincerly, Casey

A little late, yeah, but I just wanted to say that my dad laughed at me when I got worried and, then, when it was all over he said he was pissed that it hardly rained and that he had stayed for a hurricane and it never showed up. He went on and on about dedication and followthrew like I was planning on destroying a city some time soon. Oh, well, crazy folks.
